We are looking for any information about a community in Atascosa County called Gates Valley. The community once had a store and a school. It apparently got it's name from William (Uncle Billy) Gates who admired a valley in the area just north of present day Poteet. William Gates, who had been an Indian fighter, was the fourth county sheriff ( 1862-1864).
Any old photos taken at Gates Valley would be appreciated, especially school pictures. It would also be nice to identify those who lived there.
